Along with the Nine Patch, the Four Patch is one of the earliest pieced patterns taught to beginner quilters. Built by joining two pairs of contrasting squares, it forms checkerboard motifs and can be chain-pieced in minutes.

Step-by-Step Visual Assembly
Sew one Color A square to one Color B square to make two top/bottom units.
Press seams toward dark fabric.
Nest center seams with alternating colors and sew rows together.
Press center seam and trim to 12.5".
