History & Origins of the Flying Geese Unit Block
The Flying Geese unit consists of a central 90-degree triangle ('the goose') bordered by two 45-degree corner triangles ('the sky'). Always twice as wide as it is tall, this unit creates directional motion and is a primary building block for Sawtooth Stars and decorative quilt borders.

Piece Cut List
All measurements include a standard ¼" seam allowance. Finished block size: 12".
Step-by-Step Visual Assembly
Place one Sky square right sides together on the left side of the Goose rectangle.
Sew diagonally from outer corner to bottom center. Trim 1/4" away from seam and press open.
Repeat process on the right side with the second Sky square.
Press flat and trim to exact unfinished dimensions.
